Meet the Artist
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
“The wildlife, landscapes and flowers found in nature inspire my paintings. Using the transparency of watercolors and the richness of oils and pastels adds a new meaning and dimension to the world around me.”
— Judy Heimlich
Judy studied art at California State University, Northridge while earning her master’s degree in education. She later studied privately with Jeanne Down, Chet Collom, Rosa Odow, and Margot Lennartz.
Her work with the Artist-in-Residence Program at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles inspired her graduate project, “Art Programs for Hospitalized Children.” As an assistant principal for the Los Angeles Unified School District, she directed art programs at two schools, chaired the Very Special Arts Festival for several years, and taught mask making and printmaking to teachers, students, and parents.
Following retirement, Judy taught Meet the Masters and mask making at local elementary schools, an after-school art program in North Hollywood, private lessons for a young adult with special needs, and art for visually impaired preschool children.
Judy’s affiliations include Women Painters West, California Art League, Public Arts Initiative, Valley Watercolor Society, Valley Arts Alliance, the San Fernando Arts Council, and the San Fernando Valley Art Museum.
She also served as president of her Women Educators chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma.
Judy has won numerous awards in juried art shows, including three Best of Show awards.
Her paintings are held in private collections in the United States, Japan, China, Canada, Hungary, Israel, France, and Ireland.
